Hi my name is Mikhael and I’m a Shopaholic! If this blog isn’t testament enough of how a slave I am to retail commercialism then I don’t know what is. You see, shopping is my cure for everything. Lonely? Go shopping! Angry? Go shopping! Frustrated with life’s mundanity? Go shopping! I can’t think of anything else shopping can’t cure. Well, except for cancer maybe.
I blame this all to my mother. When I was little, every after church she would always go to the town department store and buy shoes. Nothing fancy or designer but it’s something that makes her happy. I remember her telling me that there’s nothing wrong with wanting things. I believe her.
She also introduced me to the world of fashion. Now that’s where the real trouble begins. All throughout my student life I spent 80% of my allowance on clothes. Yes. They’re more important to me than food. I can eat instant pancit canton for a week just so I can buy that jacket from Zara. I was that crazy. I still am now.
So my recent shopping extravaganza was just yesterday. Imagine that. After receiving moolah from my part-time job I immediately dashed off to shop. I started working part time so I can support myself in fashion school this year. But no! I’m on to my addiction again. Seriously, I should stop. But who can resist all these fabulous clothes calling my name? Haunting me every night and chanting “buy me, buy me, buy me.”
Here’s some of my loot from yesterday. Modeled by me of course.

Shopping is an experience. You walk inside a store. You stand still for a moment. Scan the surroundings. And once you saw your object of desire a blinding halo appears then birds will start singing. That’s what shopping is for me. Haha. But being a shopaholic is not all fun and glam. There are the hard times too. Like knowing you’re broke for a month. Or that the only thing you can afford to eat is Jollibee 39ers. That happened to me but it’s all for the love of fashion and with no regrets. Not even the recession can stop this boy.
If you want to have a detailed look of my addiction I chronicled everything and you can see it here and here.

Now I leave you with the song that pretty much encapsulates everything I talked about here.
